Alphabet shoot – Task 1.

The first task we were set in our brief was to take photo’s of naturally occurring letters, the brief mentioned that we should stick to a theme to keep all the images similar and to ensure they all worked well together. When beginning to take my photo’s I decided to go with a metal/structured theme, as when looking around for letters I noticed most of them within structures of buildings, signs etc. however curved letters proved to be harder to find and more challenging.

I enjoyed this task as it allowed me to look at structures etc, in a different light in which i would not notice on a normal day.

Before starting the task we told to research and have look at examples of Alphabet Image’s. I found (http://www.alphabetphotography.co.uk/) a good help when looking for inspiration for my photo’s as you can type in anything you want and see how they have achieved certain letter’s.

We used a variety of shots and close ups to achieve different letters and eye-catching photo’s. When taking the photo’s we tried to incorporate the following:

  1. Rule of thirds.
  2. Good composition.
  3. Leading lines.
  4. The right exposure.
  5. Balancing Elements.
  6. Symmetry and patterns.
  7. Viewpoint.
  8. Background.
  9. Depth.
  10. Framing.
  11. Cropping.
